Kirsty Northam
ADHD UK Ambassador
Hi, I'm Kirsty. I'm a neurospicy SEND Momma, Army Wife and animal lover who wears many hats.
My brain is constantly on the go and I always have plenty of ideas running wild in there.
My passion lies in community building and advocacy. I advocate for disabilities; human rights; women's rights; children and young people's rights; mental health and wellbeing; animal welfare; the Armed Forces community; education; equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion; nature; sustainability and circular economy. As a passionate change-maker I always look for ways to build and enrich communities through various projects.
I spend my time as a full-time carer for my child and volunteer for multiple charities, CICs and community groups. Mostly doing social media, outreach, fundraising, events and strategic work. I believe that in order to make a change, you need to hold yourself accountable and get involved.
The mottos I live by are:
- Aspire to inspire before you expire
- Always fight for those without your privilege
I have FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) and am waiting for my assessments for Autism and ADHD. I have always been out-the-box as a person and growing up I never really fitted into one box, but many. It made me realise the beauty of intersectionality and made me aware of the freedom that lies in being your true self. Authenticity has always been something I value strongly, which is why when people talk to me, they get the truth (whether they like it or not); and equally why I expect to hear the truth (whether is it hard or not).
I wholly believe that respect and kindness can be easily given and should be easily given. In the end, we are uniquely human and living our own stories.
